SPIKE & HIS FRIENDS
The exhibition "Spike & His Friends" at the VAC, has been inspired by the legendary illustrator Maurice Sendak’s “Higglety Pigglety Pop Or, There Must be More to Life!”, a portrayal of his Sealyham Terrier’s mid-life crisis and her adventure. A fantasy Sendak had for his dog Jennie’s journey crossing the rainbow bridge to the other world.

Spike, also a Sealyham Terrier, had several close encounters with death since early puppyhood. A lot of works were created to deepen our memory of him, to capture the moments we shared together. Recording his life has almost become a family obsession.

His fear for nail cutting, the begging for treats, the tapping sound when he walks, the humping on soft toys, the curiosity of his own poo poo, etc.; for pet owners, all these mundane events touches somewhere deep in the hearts. These events will be remembered long after their pets have gone.

We are sharing these cherished personal memories with other dog owners and hopefully would trigger memories and moments with their dogs.
